Your History is Told By Your Action to Others

Sitting at the pool yesterday, I was listening to a friend talk about a Commanding Officer he met on base. He was working and living with the military on base for a job. Every day, he would explore different parts of the base to take pictures and see this Commanding Officer around 5 PM in the community area.

This CO sat down with my friend every day to talk about what he saw and learned. The CO was very receptive to how my friend saw things and what his experiences were. The CO was open to any questions my friend had.

It's All A Numbers Game

It's All A Numbers Game: keyboard

For the past few months I've been studying Social Marketing through Coursera. Since I've been taking the course, I've been testing out the teachings I have learned with much success. I recommend this specialization to anyone who wants to make it in this new and advanced world.

Lately though, I've been thinking about the whole aspect of marketing, especially in social media. The further I delve into it the more I realize that it's a numbers game, with people being the numeral entity.

Depression Facts You Need to Know and Share

Found in Stat

Why is it that nobody likes talking about depression? I feel society puts this absurd connotation on it as one of the unspeakable things. Rarely do I see media coverage on it; but when I do, they're usually negative factors.

The Media is how we get all information and form our expectations and views of society. It seems to be a common thread that the media spews out partial or even fake reports to align society to their flavor of the week.

A prime example are the Myths the Media Depicts on Depression, reported by Margarita Tartakovsky, M.S. in Psych Central. The article speaks on so many myths, and here's a few of them below:

Crabs In A Bucket Principle: This Could Be Why You're Failing

They Suffer From "Crab in a Bucket Syndrome" They Seek to Keep You away from what they don not understand. They do not know they are harming you
Found on Work At Home Rockstar

Being the existential thinker that I am, most of my conversations revolve around society, building businesses and the reality of the world. Interestingly, a common thread through most of these conversations involve the "Crabs In A Bucket" principle.

I call it a principle instead of a syndrome because it's not a hereditary mutation of genes, but a societorial complex that has been ingrained in us for centuries. Especially in the lower classes.

If you put 1 crab into a bucket, it can easily grab the top of the bucket and lift itself out. Now, if you put just 1 more crab in that bucket, the crabs will not escape. When 1 of the crabs tries to lift themselves out, the other crab will latch on and pull it back down.

If you're from a small town or low-income urban area, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's hard to rise up and achieve success when you don't have much support from your peers.

Anything that you want to do that's out of the norm, like not partying to study or building a business instead of working at a 9-5, is looked down upon. If you're not doing what they're doing, something is wrong with you.

Usually, I have found those people had dreams and failed, or they fear failing the dreams they have currently. So if they can't make it, then neither can you. To most, the simple answer they'd say is, "Just move away from there" or "Don't listen to them and keep pushing". I can't explain to you how hard that can be.

You grew up there, you want to have fun with everyone else, your friends and family are there, you have no support outside of your area, etc. It's a scary feeling and I don't blame some people for staying.

When you see inspiring success stories, they usually originate from little wealth and class. But what people forget is the rejection of success factor, which make these stories amazing.

You rarely hear of a kid from money being rejected to do the things they dream of. They're encouraged to do these things, and they thrive.

Our society has escalated that jealousy factor to such a point that we are keeping people from attaining their goals. We hinder instead of inspire. To all the dreamers out there, take heed.

Look at the people around you. Are they lifting you up, or pulling you down? If you are feeling disheartened about your goals and dreams, chances are you might be with the wrong crowd.

How He Saved Countless Lives

Objection! How He Saved Countless Lives
Found on Know Your Meme

Yesterday my girlfriend and I were flying back to LA after a lovely 5 day vacation in Washington. I begrudgingly chose United Airlines to fly with only because they gave me a gift card for having a 13 hour layover a few months back. We got through the first flight without a hitch. The second flight though was delayed a few hours, but not for a usual reason.

All the passengers of the flight piled into the plane and took their seats. Once the pilots got to the plane from another delayed flight, we rolled out and taxied to the runway for the take off. While we were heading towards the runway, there was a very strange repeating sound that came from the airplane. Nobody paid much mind to it since the staff did not seem worried.

After a few more minutes of this, a man rang the help button above his seat. When nobody came, he rang it again and again until the attendant went on the intercom and stated, "Please be patient, we will help you once we take off. If this is an emergency then press the button again". Immediately he pressed it again and the attendant came over.
A few words were said and the plane taxied back to the terminal. The man was a plane mechanic for the company and said it was unsafe to fly. The passengers were angry and complained that he wanted to get it looked at. He was ushered off the plane, but he didn't stop. He went up to the supervisors and forced the mechanics to look at it.

Everyone stayed on the plane. Most were irritated, some were inquiring, some were anticipating what was going on. An hour later we were cleared to go and taxied back to the airstrip. They said nothing was wrong, but the sound was gone.

For speaking up, that man might have saved all of our lives that day. He utilized his knowledge and spoke up when no one else was going to. The crisis was averted.

Standing up for something will always have a negative push at first. It might even last longer than you logically thought it would, but the end result could save peoples lives or change the world. Think about that the next time you feel you should speak, and stand up for what you believe in.

It Only Takes One

It Only Takes One to Feel Motivated Again! Thumbs Up for That!

Yesterday I hit the first of many walls that everyone hits when they are starting their own enterprise. For me, the enterprise is my Podcast "Why Don't We Question That?". The podcast is about questioning items and agenda's that this government or society creates and perpetuates. When I started it I was full of excitement and knew that it would shed light on things that I feel are important for the country to understand.

But yesterday was a hard day for me. I finished up my 3rd episode, was proud of it, but looked at my stats before I posted the episode. The low amount of views and downloads depressed me a bit. I know that I have to keep plugging away at it, but come on, I should have been able to have more than what I had...I started to question why I started it. Did anyone want to hear what I had to say? Did anyone care?

I didn't post the podcast until my girlfriend and I were about to leave for a get-together. I did this for 2 reasons: Firstly because you get more viewership after 6 PM when people are off of work and secondly because I wanted to post it and walk away. I didn't want to keep refreshing the screen for 30 minutes to see the stats.

When we got to the party, I pushed those negative thoughts to the back burner and kept my mind in the present moment of enjoyment. When the drinks kept coming, a group of us naturally started talking about the usual stuff, science and politics. I weaved my podcast into the conversation not for a promotional purpose, but to explain that I've been talking about these exact conversations on there. A girl in the group explained that her dad had a talk radio show speaking on the exact topics I was! It felt so good to talk about my passions and express them to a group of people, instead of into a microphone and to my family. She was so interested in the conversation that she wrote down my podcast to listen to later!

The fire started burning again, and with more intensity. As I was driving home I was elated and had a flow of new ideas swarming around in my head. It only took that one girl to take interest in my passion to spark that flame again.

This morning I plugged away at promoting the podcast and within an hour I got 50 more downloads! Your passion is what will bring your success.

I have a very supporting girlfriend and family, and I'm very thankful for that every day. But to organically see other people take interest in what I love, helps to keep me going. Without them, I wouldn't be able to someday make enough of a living where I can focus on just my dream and help others achieve the same too.

If you're feeling down about your passion, go out and talk to people that are like minded. Bring it up in conversation and you'll be amazed at the love you'll receive. It's worth so much. It only takes one person to light that fire again.

My Biggest Fear

My biggest Fear
Found on SAMatters.com

Fear is the second biggest proponent statistically on effectiveness of getting things done, even though it's the most widely used in the world. Just take a look at our news and political leaders and you'll see it.

Fear is ingrained in everyone and it speaks louder than hope for most people, even though hope is the strongest device. I relate it to how air flows. Hot air, being fear, rises and cold air, hope, stays low to the ground. You'll hear a lot of talk coming from someone who fears something, but hope is quite. Hope is the voice inside your head telling you to keep going. Fear is one on the other shoulder telling you how embarrassing it will be when you fail.

What if I Died Today?

I woke up this morning and still felt tired. I stayed in bed, closed my eyes and a thought came to my mind. What if I died today? Would I be happy with what I've accomplished in my life? Have I succeeded in any aspect?

I thought about what success actually meant. I know that there are many different types of success, so I listed them in my head. Monetary, Social, Family and Community are the ones that came to mind.

"Bloodline" Got Me

Bloodline Cast

Last night I was watching "Bloodline" with my girlfriend, and I was astonished by how I felt after watching it. Maybe it's just me but my life felt more of a burden, I felt like I wasn't doing enough and felt like I was holding something back.
