Thoughts On A Ferry

Seattle Ferry, Thoughts on a Ferry

As the ferry is gliding towards the Seattle Bay, I’m looking out the window and pondering the ways of the world. The Isle is so beautiful. Full of forest filled inlets, sail boats and beach houses under a bright blue sky. I watch the people around me, playing cheerfully and gawking at the birds and scenery. Not a care in the world, or maybe they’re just good at hiding it… How interesting it is that this world we see is all ours to share, animal and humans alike, yet we found a way not to appreciate it by being run by money.

I have yet to understand why we run the world this way. Prime example is a father asking his kids right next to me, “How much are you willing to pay? What’s it worth to you for the donuts? I’ll write up the contracts.” It’s all in jest I know, but it’s an ingrained mindset in every human.

Everything costs money. It amazes me that we have to pay a certain amount to receive anything we can produce ourselves, but if we try to collect certain things like rain water it’s illegal. You can only see and do things if you have money. You have to work “that job” to “pay the bills”. You can’t do what you’re passionate about because “There’s no money in it” or “I don’t have enough money to start it up”. Everyone is stressed because they owe people money and barely make the rent. Why can’t people just sit on a ferry and be happy? The truth is we do it to ourselves.

The only reasons why our world runs like this on a societorial level are because enough people believe in it, or a person in power made it a rule and not enough people rejected it.

Close your eyes and think on this. Picture a world that had no money. A world where you gave your share to humanity and lived life. All of your money problems disappeared because money didn't exist anymore.

How did you feel? Happy? It feels good right?

Constructs, beliefs, rules etc. are in life because of what we believe and what we accept. The way the world starts to change begins only when we begin altering our minds on a worldwide scale.

The Shores of Zen

Brad Slaughter at La Push Beach in Washington State

The Shores of Zen

As the waves roll in from the Pacific, the roaring water crashes against the rocks and stretches out to touch the sand.

The light off-white clouds blanket the sky for a dim glow. The mist coming off the ocean sprays the coastline. Trees and driftwood line the coast, guarding entry into the forest beyond. Clusters of river rock are sprinkled up and down the coast, with the occasional boulders and seaweed that compliment them. Tall, Island-sized rocks lay in the water just out of reach.

A constant cool breeze streams in and wraps around my body. The mixture of crisp salt water and coastal redwood fills the air. My eyes are open wide trying to memorize and record every detail. The beach is my home away from home.

There's a comfort at this specific beach that I have not felt in a while. All the sounds, temperatures, and sensations calm and relax my body. All my worries escaped me, leaving me full of wandering thought and joy. It was pure bliss.

Sitting on a rock I stared out into the expanse of the ocean. It was so freeing just sitting there. I thought about the amazing intricacies that this beautiful world gifts to us on a daily basis. I was able to completely detach from the man-made constructs, and for those couple hours I was completely present in the moment.

We walked up and down the coastline witnessing one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. I was walking around in a perma-meditative trance that heightened every sense in my body. I felt so connected to the Earth and the friends around me. I needed this.

I've never felt so calm and alive at the same time. My state of joy was explainable and I still feel it today as I am writing this. The beach re-energized and rejuvenated me. My thoughts flow freely and are not trapped behind the walls of complexity and society. Every time I have a block or feel the pressure of stress, I will listen and watch the numerous videos I took to bring me back to this special place.

The Travelling Blogger

The Travelling Blogger: Travelling teaches you so much about life and opens your mind!

The past few years since I've been with my girlfriend, I have traveled more than I ever have in my life; and I love it. We've been to Mexico, both our home towns multiple times, and have driven around the country.

Today marks our 2nd of 5 days in Seattle visiting some of her friends. I have never been to Washington, let alone Seattle. It's a pretty amazing city with so many things to do. We went to downtown Seattle yesterday which I fell in love with. It's like walking through a time machine. Brick paved streets and buildings, trees were everywhere, it smelled so much better than Los Angeles, and the bars were very homey.

I have met a wonderful group of people here. We all met up in downtown and took a ferry to Bremerton where they live. We had such a lively conversation about politics that people were staring at us.

The view from the ship was so amazing. I got to see a part of Seattle that a lot of visitors usually don't see. It has already opened my eyes to the culture and the people of the area. A wealth of new ideas came to mind to write about and share.

I recommend traveling for anyone, not just writers and bloggers. It's a big world out there and so much to learn. I feel that I have grown more as a person, become more social, and have seen things that I will cherish the rest of my life.

I haven't made any more money than I have before I started travelling, it's all about how you manage your money and SAVE. You'd be amazed at what putting away $100 a month will build up to. Travelling is the best way to learn about life, learn about yourself and kick out that writers block.
